Well the word on the street is that today's competing rallies (one supporting the government and one supporting the farmers) are expected to attract up to 300,000 participants. Everyone is predicting a traffic mess and possible violence. The US Embassy went as far as sending an email to all of us registered with them warning us to stay away from the two locations of the rallies.
The farmers will be demonstrating against a controversial export duties tax which has sparked a bitter conflict between the government and farmers. The pro-government demonstration is scheduled to take place at the Dos Congresos square in front of the Congress building, and the farmers will gather at the Monumento de los Españoles near the Rural Society showgrounds.
Unfortunately for me, I'll be stuck at work while the rallies take place, so I will only get second hand reports from the news channels.
