Every year, thousands of people from across Argentina make the journey to Cordoba, located 10 hours by bus from Buenos Aires, to take part in South America's second largest Oktoberfest celebration. The event spans over 10 days and I just returned from my third time participating this last weekend.
Argentina has a large German population (both from before and after World War II) and there is a small community near Cordoba called Villa General Belgrano, where many of them relocated. The town feels like you could be in Germany with its architecture and European feature of its residents.
Every day during Oktoberfest begins with a parade down the main street where hundreds of people are dressed in traditional eastern European outfits. Following the parade, everyone heads to the beer hall where you must first buy a mug - they range in size from a pint all the way up to three liters. Then you go from booth to booth trying the different artisanal beers. Throughout the day there is live music, concerts and "buena onda" to be found.
