Earlier in October, I flew the short 700 kilometer flight to the city of Cordoba, in the center of Argentina, to participate in the third largest Oktoberfest celebration in the world! Argentina has a large population of Germans, most of whom migrated here before World War II and others (we won't go there) after.
Held in the small town of Villa General Belgrano, the event attracts 50,000 visitors yearly. Upon arrival, you buy a pint (or liter) beer mug - some are made of wood, others ceramic, and others metal. Then upon entering the event, you simply go to any craft beer vendor you want, give them your mug and they fill it for you. It's an all day event starting around 10 am and ending well after 11 pm, so needless to say I felt it the next morning.
Throughout the day, there are concerts, exhibits and lots of partying, of course. Here's a short video that shows just how intense an Argentine Oktoberfest really is:
