The project was abandoned and since then, the birds returned, bringing with them seeds from native vegetation. Additionally, other wildlife such as iguanas and a variety of small rodents and mammals have returned as well. The government has built bike and walking paths on the perimeter of the reserve, but the interior is "human free," ensuring the reserve remains protected. On any given weekend in the spring/summer, the reserve attracts hundreds of locals and tourists who want a quick escape from the noise and chaos of the city.
Because the weather was warm and sunny today, I took 1/2 day off from work and biked to the reserve this afternoon, taking the photos above and enjoying the outdoors on a Tuesday in Spring!
