Moon Valley is about a thirty minute drive south of La Paz and consists of massive rocks where the erosion has created stony formations similar to a lunar landscape. This was a quick one-half day tour for me and, as you can see by the photos, I'm extremely sunburned and wanted to stay out of the sun as much as possible.
On a separate note, my guide today explained why the Bolivian women wear those funny, man looking top hats from the 19th century. Apparently in the late 1800's, a European businessman made a bad business decision and ordered way too many hats than he needed. In order to recoup his losses, he told the upper class women that that style hat was very fashionable for high society women in Europe to wear, and the women bought his lie. Several years later, the hats were duplicated and sold to the lower classes who wanted to appear fashionable. The trend lasted throughout the 20th century and into this century!
