Dinner at Casa Felix

Last night, a friend from the US invited me to dinner at Casa Felix, one of the trendiest and most popular "dining clubs" in Buenos Aires. The concept of a dining club is that of an upscale restaurant, but in a private residence. Casa Felix's chef/owner has created an incredibly delicious menu that focuses on traditional South American vegetables and spices. In fact, many of the herbs used in his dishes are grown in his backyard. The owner's fiance, Sanra, is a Californian who met Diego (Felix) a few years back and is now helping him with running the business.

Last year, Casa Felix was named one of the top 10 best secret dining clubs in the world by Travel & Leisure magazine, and I can see why. Sanra and Diego only open their home to guests from Thursday to Saturday and, from what I have been told, the wait for a Friday or Saturday night dinner can be up to three months. The home can only accommodate twelve diners and the seating is in groups. We were paired with a lovely aunt/niece traveling together from Brighton, UK.

The menu is a five-course meal, starting with a shot of pisco sour, then onto a ceviche-like dish made with potatoes, followed by an appetizer consisting of regional fried vegetables. The main course was a whitefish, garnished with regional herbs and vegetables, and the dessert was a tart. The restaurant offers wine, but they also encourage guests to bring their own, which we did. The most unique thing I experienced at Casa Felix was the water, which was flavored with cucumber.

Casa Felix is located in the Chacarita/Colegiales neighborhoods and, if you go, make sure your taxi driver knows where it is. We were late because our first taxi driver had no clue where it was and ended up dropping us off about 15 blocks from the house. Above is a photo of me, Diego Felix and his fiance, Sanra - the hosts/owners.
