Today's New York Times had a very insightful article written by a US citizen who moved to Buenos Aires in 2001 with her husband. In it, she talks of the ups and downs of surviving in a country (and a city) known for its volatility. There is a lot in here I can relate to and her narrative is pretty darn accurate. Yesterday's protests turned out to be pretty peaceful. There was, however, one accidental death not related to the protest itself. I watched the news last night of the President delivering her address and she was pretty pathetic. She overacts and wants to give the impression that she is Evita reincarnated. Most of the portenos (residents of Buenos Aires) have a very strong distaste for her and it's easy to 
see why. She comes across as lecture-y and condescending in her speeches and she refuses to concede any points.

The impact of the several month long farmer strike is becoming more and more noticeable again. Most of the grocery stores are running out of beef products and some don't have any at all. Last time this happened, they even had to ration out dairy products. It's hard to believe she is less than one year into her term of office and has created such a mess so quickly.
