Rather than regurgitate how Wikipedia describes Teotihuacan (far better than I ever could), click here to read a history about these amazing pyramids. We arrived at Teotihuacan Sunday at noon, after getting stuck in traffic (and trying to be cheap by taking the free roads instead of a paid highway). I've been here twice before but every time, the view is just as breathtaking. After paying admission, you have the entire place to explore at your own pace. We headed to the tallest pyramid (the Pyramid of the Sun) and climbed it to get some awesome views of the smaller (but more attractive) pyramid - the Pyramid of the Moon.
I have read mixed reports, but the Pyramid of the Sun is either the 2nd or 3rd largest pyramid in the world and it took the wind out of me to hike it, especially since Mexico City is a very high altitude city to begin with. After catching our breath and taking a bunch of panoramic photos, we headed along the Calle de los Muertos (Street of the Dead),which connects the two pyramids. It bears its name because of the hundreds of skulls that were found alongside of it when originally discovered. After resting and observing the smaller pyramid (you could only climb 1/4 of it so it wasn't worthwhile), we headed back to DF but not before buying miniature statues of both Gods of the sun and moon.
Make sure to click on each photo to get the best effect!
