Feliz Navidad

Merry Christmas/Feliz Navidad! This year, I will celebrate Christmas with morning service at the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in downtown Buenos Aires. It is the oldest Anglican church in Argentina - founded in 1831 - and one of the few that offer bilingual services. Although not officially part of it, the church still maintains ties with the Church of England.

Because the weather is the exact opposite of New England (we are expecting a sunny day with highs in the 90's), portenos typically spend Christmas day outdoors at the parks, or for those who left for the coast early, at the beach. The big dinner celebration is on Christmas eve and most portenos that attend church do so at a midnight service, rather than Christmas morning.

Following church, I'll bike around the ecological reserve and over to Bosques de Palermo before heading out to dinner at La Cabana with a few friends. La Cabana is owned by the Orient Express chain of upscale hotels and is one of the most prestigious steakhouses in BA, attracting politicians and celebrities. Since most people here have their big dinner the night before, I doubt the restaurant will be full.
