Otovalo Market

Two hours outside of the capital city of Quito, Ecuador is the town of Otovalo, where every day they sponsor a local market full of handmade clothing and other locally made items. The market itself is not the draw, but the drive there. To get there, you weave in and out of the Andes mountains at altitudes ranging from 10,000 to 16,000 feet. I ended up buying a really nice leather backpack and a sweater made from baby alpaca, the softest fur I've ever felt. Thankfully, I bought them when I did because the next day, I was robbed and had no more money the rest of the trip! To see more photos from the trip to Otovalo, click here.
