El Nido, Palawan

The highlight of my recent trip to Hong Kong and the Philippines was spending a few days exploring the many islands off the coast of El Nido, on the island of Palawan. To get there, you have to take a six hour van ride (or a prop plane, which isn't my thing) along bumpy and often unpaved roads. But once there, you realize it's worth your while.

From beaches only accessible by swimming through caves, to water the color of emeralds, every island was unique. On top of it, the seafood was absolutely amazing. A large grilled lobster was only about $5 USD.

Because it is relatively difficult to get to and well preserved, El Nido is regularly rated one of the top three islands in the world and its beaches have been featured in James Bond movies, as well as The Beach and Bourne Legacy.
