Last night, I went to a wine tasting at La Rural. This yearly event attracts a lot of the "well to do" and famous people from Buenos Aires. Within minutes after arriving, one of my friends spotted a celebrity - Alfredo de Angeli - there. He is the leader of the farmers group that led the huge 2008 protests against the President of Argentina that ultimately resulted in her losing control of the Senate a few months ago. He is seen by many here who want lower taxes as a national hero and is hated by the Peronistas who support higher taxes.The wine tasting itself was enjoyable. There were probably 30 different "bodegas" or wineries from across Argentina there and they had musical performances and cooking shows for those not interested on tasting wines. For only 60 pesos (less than $20), this was definitely worth the investment.
This weekend La Rural will host the annual Buenos Aires Tourism Fair so I'll head there to see what they have to offer.
